Council approves fire assessment continuation, millage advertisement and firefighter gear grant application

Finance staff asked the council to authorize advertising the maximum operating millage rate for FY 2027 as required by Florida's TRIM notice process (staff cited §200.069, Florida Statutes). The council authorized publication of the proposed maximum millage for the operating budget and for the INS 2016 GO parks millage.
Staff also recommended continuation of the annual fire-assessment fee at the current rate of $50 per dwelling unit for fiscal year 2027 and provided the council with an estimated net revenue projection; the council approved the resolution to continue the assessment. On the public-safety grant front, staff sought authorization to apply for a Florida Department of Financial Services grant to replace six sets of expired firefighter turnout gear. The total project cost was reported as $33,135; if awarded the grant would fund 95% ($31,472.50) with the city providing a 5% match ($1,661.50). The council authorized submission and acceptance if the grant is awarded.
