Concerns about delinquent tax reporting and budgeting surfaced during public discussion at the Selectboard meeting on Feb. 23, 2026. Dustin asked why delinquent tax amounts were no longer listed; board members said the practice ended in 2018 and that the largest delinquent account was approximately $30,000, which could be used as a reference for the total. Eric Holmgren said he had been advised by Sullivan & Powers to budget for delinquent taxes and questioned why that had not been done and why grants were not reflected in reports.
Kristin Paya read an applicable statute for the group (the specific statute was not named in the minutes). The board discussed how the budget approval process works — if a budget is voted down, a new budget must be prepared — and reiterated that the board may make expenditures up to $5,000 without voter approval. The discussion carried into the pre-Town Meeting budget review, where residents raised broader concerns about perceived annual overspending and the share of property taxes that go to schools.
