Library to begin charging 50¢ per fax page; staff report outlines hires and fall programs

The library announced it will begin charging patrons 50¢ per page for public faxing, a change staff said was prompted after the vendor ended a 250 free-pages arrangement and the library averaged more than 400 fax pages a month last year. "Starting this month, we started charging 50¢ a page for people," staff member Megan said, adding the fee is lower than other local options and helps cover costs.
Megan told the board two library associates began work the previous week and the library is hiring two part-time circulation positions. She also unveiled this year’s community read, The Birth of Loud by Ian Port, and flagged an author event planned for Oct. 22 at MSUM tied to the selection. "It's going to be The Birth of Loud by Ian Port," Megan said when describing the pick and upcoming author appearance. The staff report included program previews — music trivia, a vinyl listening session, and two living-history events on July 23 and Aug. 13 — and a traveling "American Revolution Experience" exhibit scheduled at the main library on Aug. 10.
Board members asked follow-up questions but raised no objections to the fee or the staffing updates. Megan also reminded the board of a summer reading wrap-up party the following Monday featuring hands-on activities and life-size animatronic dinosaurs.
