County seeks design changes to bring Public Safety Building back into budget; CIB funding likely needed

Sam Long, facilities staff, told the commission updated construction estimates show the Public Safety Building is "significantly over budget," and he presented a design modification intended to bring the project closer to the county's budget.
Long explained the contract modification with the project's architect would allow staff to revise the design and "get closer" to the county's funding target, but he said he still expects the county may need to seek additional funding from the Community Impact Board (CIB). Commissioners asked for clarification about the term "test fit" and the stages of design; Long described the concept test-fit phase as an initial design step to match program needs to building footprint and configuration.
A motion to approve Modification No. 2 to the design contract with the architect was moved and seconded and approved during the meeting. Long and commissioners indicated the county will continue design work with an eye to budget and may return with a CIB funding request if needed.
