Transit staff report June safety incidents at GTC and on vehicles

Transit staff reviewed a series of safety and security incidents from June at the Ground Transportation Center (GTC) and on vehicles and outlined responses taken.
"On June 8, we saw an instance of a passenger who's trying to start fights with other passengers... we had to contact Fargo PD to have them removed," Cole said, describing multiple responses. Staff also recounted an incident on June 10 where a person assaulted a bus driver and another June 10 response in which staff found a backpack with wires near a gas meter, prompting an evacuation; later the activity was identified as utility work. In total, staff listed 3 incidents of public intoxication, 6 verbal altercations, 1 physical altercation, 5 trespass removals and 1 biohazard incident for the month.
Committee members asked whether there was an event that drove spikes in incidents; staff said seasonality and summer weather (more people out) were likely factors and noted the security contractor's reports showed similar trends. Staff praised employee responses to the suspicious backpack and other incidents and suggested continued coordination with local law enforcement and social-service partners.
