Commission approves rear-mounted solar panels for 22 Somerset Street in Elm Park district
Summary
The commission issued a certificate of appropriateness for rear-mounted solar panels at 22 Somerset Street; owner James May and contractor Dan Gorich said panels will face the driveway, not the Somerset Street facade, and future EV-charging plans are being considered.

Contractor Dan Gorich described a proposal to install roof-mounted solar modules on the rear-facing slopes of 22 Somerset Street and confirmed panels will not be placed on the Somerset Street-facing façade. Owner James May said he plans future rooftop- and garage-adjacent EV charging for tenants as part of long-term building upgrades.
Commissioners said rear placement preserves the Elm Park historic district streetscape and approved a certificate of appropriateness. The approval included the condition that front-facing elevation panels are not proposed and that the installation follow the presented plans.
