The MAP Bus Coordinating Committee voted to suspend supplemental Route 2C for the upcoming MSUM academic year after staff presented ridership data showing the supplemental runs had very low usage.
"Ridership from the route was analyzed, and it was determined that the additional service saw very low ridership compared to when it was regularly scheduled," said Cole, the MAP/Metro transit staff member who presented the analysis. He told the committee the suspension would remove roughly 332 revenue hours and just under 4,400 revenue miles from service and estimated an operational savings in reduced driver overtime (the presentation cited an estimate of about $13,400 in driver overtime savings). Staff said the suspension is for the academic year; the route had already been planned for elimination at the start of 2027 under the previously presented budget.
Committee members asked whether the change required a public hearing; Cole said it did not because the cut affects less than 25% of a route's revenue hours and miles under the City of Fargo major-service threshold. Chair Deb White confirmed staff would provide the campus and partner institutions with the data behind the decision and update public communications.
The motion to pass the resolution was moved and seconded during the meeting and approved on a roll-call vote. Roll-call names read during the vote included Flanagan, Paulson, McDougall, Scott, Stevens, Strand, Swain and White; the chair announced the motion passed.
