Commission approves Ace Hardware storefront and site updates with landscaping conditions

Commissioners approved an exterior remodel and limited site work for the Ace Hardware at 110th and Oklahoma after staff recommended conditional approval. Staff described the project as an exterior building remodel (front storefront and gable re-siding), replacement of a storefront concrete area, some underground storm drain work, new soffit lighting and the potential for partial roof replacement.
Staff said the store is an established, approximately 60,000-square-foot property and recommended that plans show the location of porta‑potties, consider screening them, and include some landscaping — either end-cap landscape islands or raised planters in the new concrete footprint. “Staff is also willing to work with ACE and MSI on an alternate plan to install as part of that concrete work,” a staff member said.
When a commissioner asked whether plantings could withstand winter salt and snow, staff replied existing plantings had been durable and suggested salt-tolerant species. A motion to approve the remodel passed by voice vote with the requested landscaping conditions.
