The board moved into closed session under N.C. Gen. Stat. 143-318.11(a)(6) for personnel matters; only the seven commissioners participated and Vice‑Chairman Robert Mims took notes. After returning to open session, commissioners discussed that Parks and Recreation/Facilities Director Wendell Small still held a key to the Board of Elections office. The Board of Elections staff reported they are securing the back of their office and limiting access so cleaning occurs during daytime hours; commissioners noted the office does not have a full camera system.
Commissioner Jarvis Woodburn moved to recess the meeting until a Budget Workshop on Thursday, May 7 at 10:00 a.m.; Commissioner Lawrence Gatewood seconded and the motion carried unanimously. No further action on elections security or camera installation was recorded at the meeting.
