The Muskego City Library is reporting a strong summer season: Library Director (S4) told the board, “We have 2,193 people registered for summer reading,” exceeding last year’s 2,098 even though several weeks remain in the program. Trustees and staff highlighted particularly high attendance at in‑person events and passive programming such as scavenger hunts, which rose to 906 child participants in June compared with 555 in the same month last year.
S4 credited improved programming, visiting presenters and outreach for the growth and said digital services are also evolving: staff who attended the American Library Association conference returned with vendor leads for holds lockers and for a new hotspot‑management provider that would let staff remotely toggle service for overdue devices. “This new one is a very slick online system that you can just toggle the service off and on,” S4 said, noting the library expects to implement the hotspot change in 2027 because current funds for this year are already committed.
Trustees discussed how increased in‑library programming and meeting‑room use means headcounts at the entrance undercount actual usage; S4 said she has obtained quotes for a people‑counter system to better capture those visits and planned to evaluate budget inclusion this year or next.
