District staff highlighted recent community partnerships and donations at the July 23 board meeting as part of a "spotlight" report on summer activities.
Miss Dorsey told board members the YMCA back-to-school fest โ held in partnership with OrthoIndy Foundation and Pike alumni Mike Jarrell โ distributed approximately 1,400 backpacks filled with school supplies. She said the district and local partners moved the event indoors because of rain but still reached many families.
Dorsey said the Indianapolis Colts Foundation and American Family Insurance selected Central Elementary School for a uniform distribution, contributing uniforms, hats, hygiene kits, school supplies and pizza with an estimated value of $65,740. She also named the Pike Township Educational Foundation as giving $4,225 to the Pike High robotics team and a $500 donation to the new Augusta North robotics team.
Staff framed the donations as part of ongoing community engagement and said details and event dates will be posted on the district website and shared through school communication channels.
