Gary Oles, identified himself and provided his address, used the public comment period to press the commission on fiscal policy and property taxes. Oles said recent budget decisions and tax changes have shifted the balance away from residents and urged the commission to act to limit future tax burdens.
"The last line of what I said is ultimately the taxpayers will decide whether or not we're gonna take it anymore," Oles told commissioners, saying the issue is important for Manhattan’s future. He noted prior discussions about the 2026 budget and asked the commission to seek long-term solutions to spending and tax levels.
The commission did not take immediate action during the public comment period; the mayor moved the meeting along to commissioner remarks and the consent agenda after Oles concluded.
