Tusayan adopts Tentative FY 2026-27 budget, sets July 14 public hearings on final budget, five-year plan and tax change

The Tusayan Town Council on June 18 adopted the Town’s Tentative FY 2026-2027 Budget and approved public notice for hearings on July 14 to consider the Final Budget, Five-Year Plan and a proposed transaction privilege tax (TPT) increase.
Town Manager Clifton told the Council the Tentative Budget action also sets a noticed public hearing date for July 14; the July 14 meeting will include the Town’s finance advisors, the financial advising attorney and the Town Attorney. The motion to adopt Resolution No. 2026-02 (Tentative Budget FY 2026-2027) carried with Mayor Clarinda Vail, Vice Mayor Greg Brush, Council Member Josh Collet and Council Member Andrew Aldaz voting aye; Council Member Elena Villanueva was absent.
The budget summary presented to Council began with audited 2025 numbers and used 2026 estimates to project through 2031. The General Fund forecast shown at the meeting listed General Fund revenues of $5,744,290, operating expenditures of $6,124,123 and a projected ending fund balance of approximately $4,043,199 after planned transfers and capital spending. Finance staff emphasized that the projected fund balance would remain above the Town’s 15% policy despite large reserve transfers planned for capital work in 2027.
Council also voted to post public notice for the July 14 hearings on the Final Budget, Five-Year Plan and the proposed TPT increase. The public notice motion was made by Vice Mayor Brush and seconded by Council Member Collet and recorded as carried by the same majority vote.
