"They're breaking ground this month on a $48,000,000 brand new state park that's gonna run from Queen Wilhelmina to the city of Mena," the trustee said, noting the town hopes to model trail connections and special-use-permit processes to expedite local trail development.
The trustee said the town is exploring fundraising, engineering partners and potential special-use permits from the U.S. Forest Service, and that two design organizations will return for site visits. Trustees discussed the potential to tie the commercial district to recreational assets with non-motorized transportation corridors and to pursue expedited permitting or advanced engineering where feasible.
Trustees expect to review proposals from interested design firms at upcoming meetings and to continue conversations with state and regional partners about public-lands access and special-use-permit processes.
