Leoti grant writer secures $5,000 for fire department, pursues several grants for park and infrastructure

Aimee Baker, City Grant Writer, told the council she had applied for and received a $5,000 grant from the Western Kansas Community Foundation to replace self-contained breathing apparatus for the Leoti Volunteer Fire Department. Baker said she is registering the city with Wal-Mart to pursue additional grant opportunities and expects to learn in February 2026 whether the city receives a water infrastructure grant the city applied for.
Baker outlined a portfolio of seven grant opportunities she plans to pursue after the first of the year, focused on playground equipment (including ADA-accessible options), fire department equipment and curb-and-gutter replacements. She also offered to help complete paperwork on the Blue Cross Blue Shield Pathway crosswalk applications to meet upcoming deadlines. "I had applied and received a $5,000 grant with Western Kansas Community Foundation," Baker said; she left the meeting at 7:01 p.m.
