Sheriff's office authorized to seek $35,000 behavioral health peer-support grant

Noah Summers, the jail administrative sergeant and peer-support coordinator, asked the board for permission to submit a $35,000 grant from the Department of Local Affairs to keep a peer-support application (the Cortico application) in service for sheriff's office staff and their immediate families. Summers said the app provides confidential access to mental-health care and self-assessments and recommended the county pursue the funding; commissioners approved the application.
Summers told the board that losing the grant would mean losing access to the application and that the sheriff’s office would need to identify alternate ways to provide peer support and confidential mental-health access for staff and families. The board voted in support of the resolution to submit the grant application.
