Edgerton Adopts Changes to Sign Code, Limits Monument Sign Sizes on Highway 56

Development Services Director Zach Moore presented Ordinance No. 2192 to the council on March 12, explaining proposed updates to Article 12 of the Unified Development Code that would modify monument sign standards in commercial and industrial districts and align IG and IH district rules with the Logistics Park (LP) district. Moore said the draft had been recommended by the Planning Commission following a Feb. 10 public hearing with no public comment.
Mr. Moore confirmed that "the ordinance would not affect existing businesses unless changes are made," meaning existing legal nonconforming signs may remain in place, but a full replacement or significant alteration would require compliance with the new standards. The changes include removing the allowance for home occupation yard signs, requiring external directional signs to be on a solid base, and adjusting enforcement responsibilities in the LP district to a designated official or department. The council voted 3-0 to adopt the ordinance.
