City utilities staff presented quarterly operations figures and flagged several compliance items at the Feb. 26 council meeting. "About 9,131,700 gallons of water were pumped" from Nov. 1, 2025 through Jan. 31, 2026, Utilities Superintendent Mike Mabrey reported; staff also reported 15,138,000 gallons of sewer treated, 149,000 gallons of liquid sludge removed and 120 tons of dry sludge removed during the period. The utilities team completed 424 locates (19 emergency), five meter changeouts, 23 new meter installations and 18 customer turn-offs for nonpayment.
Staff noted the KDHE sanitary inspection is scheduled for 2026 and that the city must comply with a new EPA Lead and Copper Rule testing requirement. Public Works Director Dan Merkh explained the water meters were installed in 2016 and that the equipment carries a 10-year full replacement warranty; staff said a meter replacement policy will be brought to council for consideration. No council action was required.
