Edgerton council approves rewrite of Planned Unit Development rules

The Edgerton City Council on Feb. 26 approved Ordinance No. 2191, a rewrite of Article 6 (Planned Unit Developments) of the City’s Unified Development Code. Development Services Director Zach Moore told council the change is the first step in a full UDC rewrite scheduled through 2026 and that the Planning Commission recommended the draft by a 4-0 vote after a Jan. 13 public hearing with no speakers. "This proposed update to the UDC is the first step in a complete rewrite of the City’s UDC, with several additional updates to follow throughout 2026," Moore said.
Councilmembers asked how existing PUDs were working in practice. Moore said the City has a positive working relationship with the developer of the first PUD and that City inspectors maintain a close, hands-on role; he offered regular quarterly updates to council. Councilmember Clay Longanecker said he liked the variety that PUDs can provide and asked for ongoing updates; Councilmember Deb Lebakken moved to approve Ordinance No. 2191 and Councilmember Longanecker seconded. The motion carried 4-0 (Councilmember Malloy absent).
