Council flags transportation impacts as 3,700 new apartments come online in the region

The chair told the council he has a map showing over 3,700 new apartments permitted or coming online in the Beaufort area and urged a coordinated transportation impact response. "We've got over 3,700 new apartments coming online that are not here yet, which is going to have a tremendous impact on our transportation systems," he said, and proposed a county–city collaborative GIS that would be updated monthly or quarterly.
Council members agreed to invite the Northern Beaufort County transit study team for an update and to have the Beaufort-Jasper Housing Trust Fund present at a future meeting on repair and rent-to-own grant activity. Christopher Clement and others said the slide set identifying permitted developments would be distributed and used to inform TIA and planning commission reviews.
