WCES Principal Misty Gardner told the Leoti City Council she seeks permission for the grade school to discharge fireworks on May 11, 2026 at about 3:00 p.m. on the practice field north of the school as part of a 250th celebration. She said the school will have activities and refreshments and that the local fire department would be present during the display.
Mayor Chris Kreutzer and council members assented to the plan during the March 2 meeting and asked City Attorney Charles Moser to prepare a temporary ordinance for formal consideration at the next council meeting. The request was made during the public comment/agenda item portion of the meeting and received council consensus rather than a recorded contested vote. The council did not record additional safety conditions in the meeting minutes; the draft ordinance will specify any permit or safety requirements.
