The board reviewed four police patch concepts presented by a designer (Speaker 12) and discussed imagery, color contrast, and legibility. Trustees favored options 1, 2 and 3 and asked staff to produce samples for distribution to officers to decide day-to-day versus formal usage.
Speaker 12 described the design rationale — prominence of ‘POLICE,’ local environmental motifs, and cultural elements — and cautioned that embroidery scale and stitch limitations will alter detail in production. Trustees emphasized clarity of the 'POLICE' lettering and recommended adjusting the horse-and-rider detail on one design for better visual recognition at patch scale.
The board voted to authorize production of the three preferred designs to trial in uniform placement, with staff returning samples for final selection by the department.
