Pleasanton officials thank crews after wildfire forces roughly 6,000 evacuations

Chair Pace opened the July 22 Pleasanton Planning Commission meeting with a summary of the city's wildfire response and public-safety operations. He said evacuation orders had been lifted about two hours earlier and estimated "approximately 6,000 people in the city of Pleasanton that were ordered to evacuate" the night before.
Pace described local sheltering and response efforts, saying staff set up about "100 plus or minus" beds at the senior center and that the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department, Cal Fire mutual-aid crews and Pleasanton police worked to protect homes. "You would see that the fire got within, you know, 10, 20 feet of some of those homes," Pace said, and he praised firefighters and officers for their work.
The chair said, based on information available that evening, there were no reported fatalities and no structures known to have been impacted. He also thanked Parks & Rec, environmental services, senior-center staff and dozens of other city employees and volunteers who supported sheltering and logistics.
The commission did not take formal action on the wildfire response during the meeting; Pace said staff and more-informed speakers would provide additional updates as they become available.
