County OKs $199,289 jail camera upgrade after $162,000 grant reduces cost

The Jefferson County commissioners voted to enter an agreement with Securitas Technology Corporation for an IP video upgrade at the county jail totaling $199,289.25.
Economic development director Jessiri told the board the project received an LSA grant of $162,000, which the county expects will lower the local share to about $37,000. Jessiri said jail cameras “do not function properly, which is a safety hazard for the staff and the inmates.” The board recorded affirmative votes on the item.
