Hochatown staff working with Airbnb and vendors to fix lodging-tax mapping errors

Town staff updated trustees on an ongoing Airbnb lodging-tax mapping problem that has caused misdirected remittances. Staff said Airbnb is still collecting taxes and that the town is working with the Oklahoma Tax Commission and Airbnb’s mapping vendors to correct property-level mapping.
A staff member explained that Airbnb contracts with a third-party mapping vendor (identified in the presentation as Vertex) and that Vertex did not have correct mapping for several properties in the Hochatown area. Staff said they have provided corrected mapping data and are "staying on top of them about getting it done," while also maintaining a temporary manual process at town hall to help hosts correct their listings.
Trustees asked whether, once town boundaries are established in the mapping data, Airbnb could provide a report of taxes remitted by property inside those boundaries; staff said they expect better reporting once mapping is corrected but that Airbnb’s current remittance reports do not include property-level detail. Staff will continue direct outreach to Airbnb, OTC and consultants and will update the board when data accuracy is restored.
