Council staff outlines communications guidance, trainings and small engagement fund

Council office staff provided a series of leadership and communications updates at the July 21 meeting, highlighting resources for alders and noting a few operational issues.
Karen said the office prepared a Council Office Annual Report and a common-council social media guidance packet developed with the city attorney's office to help alders navigate records-retention and related obligations. "We worked with the city attorney's office to really come up with a lot kind of like the 50 piece rule stuff," she said, and added that hard copies of the materials will be attached to Legistar.
Staff also noted a plain-language workshop coming in September and that the Aspire intern will return part time in the fall. Karen apologized for a malfunctioning auto-reply in the council inbox and said IT is troubleshooting the issue. Separately, staff will reclassify small promotional items into a single $1,100 community engagement fund to better reflect practice and asked alders to send ideas for future tours and youth engagement events.
