After delivery-truck strike, council approves additional funds for transformers

The city previously purchased a 100 kVA transformer in July for $7,807.35 (saving $7,427.65 from an earlier 150 kVA estimate). After the October 24 incident, staff purchased three 50 kVA 7200/12470Y–120/240 transformers from Midwest Transformer Service for $11,070.45. Using savings from the earlier purchase left a remaining balance; Councilmember Tanner Corwin moved to approve an additional $3,642.80 to cover the cost. Larry Lysell seconded and the motion passed 8-0.
Council characterized the purchases as necessary to shorten outages for affected customers and to replenish stock for future emergency responses. Staff indicated the additional transformers would allow faster restoration and create a more useful inventory for similar incidents.
