Council considered proposed improvements to Scentral Bark Dog Park on Nov. 17 after a local donor offered to fund enhancements including a new dog pen, benches, a pergola and additional trees.
City staff presented multiple contractor bids for the fence and construction work. Bids for the pen ranged from $12,840.95 to $26,196; Advanced Fence's $19,000 bid was accepted to build a dog pen. Mid Kansas Construction's $3,840.99 bid for two benches and one pergola was also accepted, resulting in a combined total of $22,840.99. "The donor has agreed to fund several additions, including new benches, a pergola, additional trees, and an additional dog pen," city staff said. Councilmember Kirsten Bruce moved to accept the two bids as presented; Rebecca Van Der Wege seconded and the motion passed 8-0 by roll call vote.
The improvements are donor-funded; council did not allocate city general-fund dollars for the project at the meeting. Staff will coordinate contract execution and construction scheduling with the donor and vendors.
