Lindsborg council approves $15,000 annual sewer-line cleaning plan

City staff told the Lindsborg City Council on Nov. 17 that the city's proactive sewer maintenance program — in place for 28 years — has dramatically reduced sewer backups and that the 2026 budget includes $15,000 for line cleaning.
"This year there is $15,000 Budgeted and this should allow for approximately 16,000 linear feet of sewer line to be cleaned," city staff reported. Mayer Specialty Service of Goddard, Kansas, was the only vendor that provided a responsive quote for this year's work. Councilmember Tanner Corwin moved to approve Mayer's quote not to exceed the budgeted $15,000; John Presley seconded the motion and it passed 8-0 by roll call vote.
Council discussion framed the program as preventive maintenance: staff said the annual cleaning schedule and targeted work in known problem areas have led to a reduction from as many as a dozen backups in earlier years to one or two — and in recent years none. Council did not add funds beyond the budgeted amount and directed staff to plan the contractor's work to fit within the $15,000 appropriation.
