Edgerton updates municipal code to align cereal malt beverage licensing with state law

On Jan. 8, 2026, the Edgerton City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2189 amending Chapter III of the municipal code to reflect recent state changes to cereal malt beverage (CMB) licensing and to remove outdated or duplicative language. Assistant to the City Administrator Kara Banks told the council staff found dated wording in Chapter III and removed language that duplicated state law.
The amendment also clarifies where alcohol-related rules apply: it removes references to alcohol in the community hall and permits alcohol inside The Greenspace when the renter secures a permit and provides required security. Councilmember Josh Lewis moved to approve the ordinance; Councilmember Ron Conus seconded and the motion carried 4-0 (Deb Lebakken absent). Staff framed the change as aligning local code with state requirements and eliminating redundant provisions.
The ordinance does not otherwise change the council's role in approving special events under the city's permitting framework; public-notice and permitting procedures remain subject to the updated code.
