Council approves $76,860 change order to SAK Construction for CDBG 3rd & Hulett sewer rehab

Public Works Director Dan Merkh told the council that CCTV inspections identified additional quantities of work for the CDBG-funded 3rd & Hulett sanitary sewer rehabilitation. The change order would increase SAK Construction's contract by $76,860 — from $149,150 to $226,010 — but Mr. Merkh said the total remains within the project's budget and avoids performing CCTV work twice. “This process is slower and has caused schedule problems with the funding,” Merkh said, explaining the city intentionally bid based on existing information and relied on contractor CCTV to confirm final quantities.
Councilmember Bill Malloy moved to approve the change order, Josh Lewis seconded, and the motion carried 4–0. The city will proceed with the added CCTV-confirmed work under the updated contract amount; staff indicated the approach puts the contractor, engineer and city together to assess and confirm final quantities.
