Council approves contractor amendment and extended warranty after concrete scaling found at The Greenspace

The Edgerton City Council on Oct. 23 approved an amendment to the Combes Construction contract to address surface scaling and flaking on concrete at The Greenspace. City Administrator Beth Linn said Braun Intertec's petrographic analysis found evidence of improper curing and overfinishing that made portions of the concrete susceptible to freeze–thaw damage. “Reviewing the analysis leads to this coming Item 12, concrete amendment,” Linn said.
Public Works Director Dan Merkh described the remediation plan as sealing, selective replacement, re-evaluation and a contractor-provided warranty extension; the amendment does not add monetary charges for the described work, only a revised warranty and retainage terms. Mayor Donald Roberts praised the contractor's responsiveness, saying the company's approach was “a rarity to today’s world” and expressing confidence the partnership would produce a correct long-term result. Councilmember Ron Conus moved to approve; Deb Lebakken seconded and the motion carried 4–0.
