S7 explained the town is currently operating under the parameters of Massachusetts general law (MGL) and that MGL "gives you a range of 3 members up to 7," recommending the board draft a bylaw to set the number and other details. The board discussed whether to set five or seven seats; chairs of the commission expressed a preference for seven to increase community involvement. S7 said the bylaw would come to the Select Board after Historic Commission input and, if approved, move to town meeting.
The consent agenda listed appointments including Selena Lamb to the Affordable Housing Trust and Albert Harper and William O'Leary to the Historic Commission. Board members clarified that these appointments will bring membership to seven and asked staff to add term lengths in the bylaw once drafted.
