The City of Chadron on July 6 approved Resolution No. 2026‑52 to lease approximately 54.4 acres of city‑owned land east of the Street Department to Shawn Patras for grazing.
City Manager Tom Menke told the council the parcel—described in the resolution as part of the "old landfill" in Section 16—was advertised with a minimum annual bid of $10.00 per acre based on University of Nebraska–Lincoln grazing‑rate research, and Patras was the only bidder. The lease term approved by the council is five years with the option to extend in additional one‑year terms; under the agreement the City will provide certain fencing materials while the lessee is responsible for fence maintenance, weed control and general upkeep.
