County proposes opioid-settlement spending, adds peer support specialist for drug court

The manager told commissioners the county participates in multiple opioid settlements and that the cumulative allotment to Caldwell County across settlements is roughly $16 million over the 2022' 2038 timeframe. Of that, Fox said the county has a cash balance of approximately $4 million available for eligible programming and presented an opioid fund budget of $815,000 that includes a peer support specialist for the local drug court.
Fox said the drug-court peer support specialist position was requested by drug-court staff and judges and that the county is proposing an interlocal agreement with Burke County to fund half of the position. "This is a new agreement as our drug court is in its infancy stages here..." Fox said. The board placed the opioid spending resolution on the consent agenda for annual approval as part of the budget process.
