Hamden manager reports playground repairs, hires and tax-commitment updates

Town Manager Paula told the council on July 20 that the Western Avenue recreation-area playground has been repaired after earthwork and replacement of broken components. She thanked the grounds crew for the repairs.
Paula also reported administrative staffing updates: the IT department hired an intern, Ryan Egan, who started that day and will work through October; HR made an offer to a front-office clerk who has accepted pending notice. At the Edith Dyer Library, the "Library in the Woods" mural by artist Peter Walls is installed and library kitchen countertop replacement is nearly complete; final plumbing is pending delivery of the permanent countertop.
On fiscal matters Paula said the assessor and finance departments finalized numbers for tax commitment after two commercial-revaluation hearings. Excess revenue sharing totaled about $111,000 (higher than the $80,000 previously discussed), and with use of $300,000 from the personnel reserve, the net impact on the budget reduced what Paula had earlier described as a 3.21% increase to an estimated 2.36% increase over last year. She declined to provide an exact mill rate at this time.
Paula said the town completed a two-year interim safety report for the Department of Labor and submitted required logs to remain in the SHAPE program.
