Superintendent details summer capital work, staffing and August update

Dr. Adorelli opened the superintendent's report with the district's North Star mission and four guiding principles tied to instructional goals, family engagement, fiscal stewardship and enrollment management. "We are currently crafting our instructional goals," he said, adding that the district will use multiple measures including student achievement and staff surveys to set high expectations.

On facilities, Dr. Adorelli gave a series of project updates: air-conditioning work at James Madison Primary, James Madison Intermediate and Washington elementary schools is in progress and scheduled to be installed for September 2026; a three-story classroom addition and office redesign at John Marshall is progressing; switchgear arrived at Edison High School; the athletic trainer room at Edison High is nearly complete; and Thomas Jefferson Middle School's kitchen renovations are underway to resume lunch service in September. "New HVAC equipment is currently on-site. Install will be ready to rock and roll for September 2026," he said.

He also described operational and staffing priorities: curriculum revisions this summer, expansion of high-school academies, extended-school-year programming wrapping up in early August, and active recruitment as the district confronts what he termed the largest teacher shortage in public education history. Dr. Adorelli told the board that his administration will provide a more detailed superintendent's report in August with specific enrollment, class-size and vacancy information.
