MSU students and Rotary seek city approval for campus 'food forest'

Student organizer Maddie Repet told the council she and MSU Evergreen representatives met with a city staffer about a possible site and are “just kinda waiting on confirmation for the spot that he suggested for our food forest.” Repet said the group plans a 12-week preparatory schedule with initial prep at the end of February and on-the-ground planning beginning in March.
Ally Seacorn, representing the Rotary Club of Morehead, said Rotary has worked on the project for years and has set aside some funds to help start it. Seacorn told the council Rotary can assist with paperwork and long-term leasing arrangements and emphasized that the college will lead the project. City staff (presenter S9) reviewed potential locations and noted one site is prone to flooding; staff recommended choosing a site that would not conflict with planned playground or development areas.
Council follow-up focused on finalizing a mapped boundary before committing the site. The mayor said staff would “follow-up tomorrow via email and then move from there,” and council requested a printed map showing proposed boundaries so the group and the council can confirm feasibility and legal requirements. Repet and Rotary said they would continue fundraising and volunteer planning once a site is confirmed.
