City staff says $25 million in water projects submitted to state; SDC and rate study underway

"I submitted $25 million in projects to the state legislature today of upgrades to our water intake, treatment, distribution, storage and, and stormwater systems," the planning staff member said. The staffer said the work will need to be phased and that the city received a $1 million allocation last year but that an engineer's estimate still shows roughly $24 million of repairs remain.
Staff framed the request as necessary because the scale of the work is beyond the capacity of a community of roughly 1,300 people to fully self‑fund. Commissioners were asked to watch for findings from the SDC and rate study, which will inform future development charges and rate adjustments. No funding decisions were made at the Jan. 15 meeting; staff said further grant and legislative work is ongoing.
