Select Board terminates Standard Power MOU, reconstitutes community-power subcommittee

The Brentwood Select Board voted to terminate its memorandum of understanding with Standard Power after committee members reported nonperformance and a lack of communication that stalled the town's community-power launch.
Chris Magnuson, acting chair of the town's Energy and Efficiency committee, told the board the town had been "in this holding pattern waiting for us to launch something" and that Standard Power contacts were no longer responsive; he recommended termination and restarting a focused subcommittee. Magnuson said the broker relationship had effectively ceased to operate and that the committee had been dormant because of the broker's nonperformance.
Board members discussed contractual language and the MOU's termination provisions; meeting materials indicated the MOU could be terminated without cause by written notice. The board voted in favor of terminating the MOU and also voted to dissolve the current Energy & Efficiency subcommittee and create a new, smaller Community Power subcommittee charged with finding a new broker and restarting launch efforts.
Board members tasked staff to locate the final copies of the MOU and to prepare written notice of termination, and they asked Magnuson to help restart and recruit the new subcommittee.
