Board keeps cannabis moratorium hearing open, moves final action to September

Town staff read the public notice proposing a local law to establish and extend a 180‑day moratorium on commercial and industrial cannabis warehousing, processing and cultivation. The town clerk clarified the proposal does not apply to retail dispensaries, which are not allowed in Clifton Park, and explained copies of the proposed law were posted online and available in the clerk’s office.
The town attorney noted that because the action is treated as a new moratorium under state municipal law, the matter requires a referral to the Saratoga County Planning Board, which does not meet until Aug. 20. To avoid a legal timing gap between moratoria, the attorney recommended tabling final action until the Sept. 1 meeting; the board agreed to keep the hearing open and defer final adoption pending the county response.
