Town board creates solar-energy steering committee to guide moratorium review

The town board voted to establish a solar-energy steering committee to guide review of tier-2 and tier-3 solar projects during the current moratorium. The committee includes council members, the planning director, open-space and zoning officials, department heads, fire representatives, and several committee chairs; an expert advisor and subject-matter advisor were also named.
Christine Matthews, speaking for Residents for Responsible Development, supported the resolution and urged that industry participation be handled as advisory briefings rather than decision-making seats so the town retains public-interest decision-making. “Your resolution doesn't dictate any outcome… and ensures that whatever the board ultimately decides is built on a sound record,” she said. Board members said the committee will help the town make careful, legally defensible recommendations before the moratorium expires.
