Dr. Vicky Silas outlined proposed revisions to the Student Rights and Responsibilities and Discipline Policy handbook for 2026–27, tying changes to recently passed legislation. "The first thing we will address is the cyberbullying and deepfake information that was passed in legislation where we've expanded the definition," Silas said, describing additions on audio-visual misuse and off-campus harassment language tied to the Teacher Shield Act.
She said the handbook adds a definition of 'skipping' to clarify chronic-absenteeism coding, expands the drug-free zone to 2,000 feet per recent legislation, and broadens student-athlete screening to include oral swabbing alongside urinalysis while adding support from an eye-care specialist. Silas also described a new web-based 'at-a-glance' layout and color-coded tiering to make the handbook easier for families and school leaders to use. Board members complimented the accessibility improvements and urged distribution to school leaders and consistent enforcement of the uniform policy.
The handbook and discipline policy were listed as consent agenda item 10; the board discussed the document and had no objections before the consent vote.
