The board voted to place two revised policies on public comment: Policy 8-058 addressing substitutes in areas of critical need and shortage, and Policy 8-059 addressing substitute bus operators. Staff explained the annual review process and said the policies will be submitted to the state Department of Education for approval or further revision after the local comment period. "This policy allows us to use retired teachers and retired bus operators in critical needs," staff said while describing the need to create a separate policy for substitute bus operators following legislative changes.
Board members asked for clarification on what the policies permit and how they will be processed; staff confirmed the policies will be publicly posted for comment, then sent to the state board for final review. Both motions to place the policies for comment carried (8-058 moved by Larkin; 8-059 moved by Margaret).
