The principal of Mountain View High School (presenter) told the board that the school's balanced scorecard shows strengths and weaknesses across subjects and cohorts, and described a package of interventions and teacher development work. "We wanted fully developed daily lessons including intentional learning targets with success criteria," the principal said when detailing instructional expectations and follow-up coaching.
The presentation included proficiency figures and intervention plans: ELA achievement reported at 48.8% (rank 97 of 115 statewide), math achievement at 34.11% (rank 87 of 115), and grade-by-grade math proficiency ranging from 3%–22% in several grades. The principal said phonics and high-frequency word skills tested well (phonics 86%, high-frequency words 73%) while vocabulary and comprehension lag (vocabulary 22%, comprehension 16%). The school outlined interventions (I-Ready, ALEKS, McGraw Hill, Carnegie Learning) and said staff used a summer conference and ongoing coaching to standardize daily lessons and exit slips to emphasize mastery and feedback.
Attendance and discipline work were a focus: the principal reported a drop in write-ups since 2022 and said the school has issued targeted truancy letters ("we're at 131 truancy letters sent") and used options programs for students off-track. The principal also described career/technical partnerships and extracurricular successes, and invited board members to visit the renovated media center and cafeteria furniture improvements.
