Mister Hardy, speaking for Kimbell Elementary School, summarized staffing and recent changes that he said have helped students and staff. He told the board Kimbell has 14 teaching positions with two vacancies filled by long-term substitutes and reported the school absorbed a special-education 'mod' classroom from Welch, which allowed the district to split the class into K–2 and 3–5 groupings to better tailor instruction. "Special education is not a career sentence," Hardy said, explaining the aim is to get students the supports they need and return them to general education when feasible.
Hardy described measurable improvements tied to behavior and attendance initiatives: chronic absenteeism is "a little under 27 percent," roughly 10 percentage points lower than the previous year, and discipline referrals are down about 28% compared with last year. He also said out-of-school suspensions decreased from four incidents totaling 14 days last year to one one-day suspension so far this year. The principal told the board the school uses weekly attendance incentives, a traveling trophy, and PBIS expectations rolled out over the summer to drive those improvements.
