Parents and residents press Logan County board for accountability after staff investigations

During the public‑comment portion of the meeting, Britney Fury told trustees the community is "demanding accountability" after multiple staff investigations since February and urged the board to attend the West Virginia Department of Education meeting on June 3 to press for stronger statewide policies and transparency. "This is simply about systems," Fury said, asking the board to evaluate investigative and communication processes so student safety is prioritized.

Billy Reeves, a parent and U.S. Army veteran, urged urgency and visible leadership, saying parents demand transparency and accountability. "Parents are demanding transparency. We're demanding accountability," Reeves said. The board chair interjected during the first public comment to remind speakers that specific personnel matters cannot be discussed during public comment because of personnel confidentiality and Sunshine Law constraints. Trustees invited individual commenters to meet privately after the meeting for further discussion.

Board members acknowledged community concern and stressed student safety as the top priority. Trustees said they would speak privately with commenters where appropriate and reiterated that some personnel issues cannot be addressed in open session because of statutory and investigative limits.
