Students, staff celebrate Logan County Schools’ Beta District of Distinction honor

District specialists and student representatives celebrated Logan County Schools being named a 2025–26 Beta District of Distinction (one of 95 nationally), with students describing leadership, service and a national ranking for community service hours.
Cynthia Dugan, introduced as the district’s secondary curriculum specialist, told the board Logan County Schools has been named a Beta District of Distinction — the only district in West Virginia with that honor and one of 95 nationwide. She framed the recognition as a districtwide achievement tied to student leadership and service opportunities.
Several student representatives from elementary, middle and high schools spoke about what Beta means at their schools. Shelby Mullen, a Logan High junior, described Beta’s four pillars and highlighted community service achievements: "Logan High School was ranked number 1 in West Virginia among all beta clubs for community service hours completed. On top of that, we were ranked number 3 in the nation." Trustees applauded the students and board members praised career and technical program work and student involvement in facility revitalization projects.
