Canvas Planning presents UDO amendment package; council asks for clarifications

Mayor Jake Ayers called the City of Hogansville work session to order at 6:00 p.m. on March 3, 2025. Aaron Fortner of Canvas Planning presented a package of proposed changes to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), saying most items had been discussed previously in a November 2024 work session and that staff sought council input before formal action.
The proposal covers several discrete topics: permitted uses for non-traditional tobacco paraphernalia, new commercial standards including a definition for 'Blighted Properties,' changes to an industrial district label (from G-I to G-LI), building-material rules related to vinyl, new language addressing unsafe electrical systems, parking prohibitions for inoperable vehicles, outdoor-burning rules in Chapter 54, stop-work order authority and boarded/burned-structure standards, updated plat review procedures for minor and major subdivisions, and paving standards for new streets and parking lots. City Manager Lisa E. Kelly asked council members to email any concerns to staff so the draft language can be refined before the item appears on the regular-meeting agenda that night.
