Board allows Summit Utilities to keep gravel equipment yard with screening requirement

A representative for Summit Utilities, Avery Fels of Veil and Engineering, asked the board for an indefinite variance to leave an equipment and material storage yard gravel rather than paving it; the area is fenced and used only for the company’s pipe and trenching equipment. "We're asking for a variance on the equipment storage lot to leave it gravel instead of paving it," Fels said, adding the yard is fenced and not open to the public.
Board members said screening would improve the visual impact; one member moved to grant the variance with the understanding the entire fenced area would be screened so materials cannot be seen. The applicant agreed to provide screening and the motion passed in a roll call. Staff will include the screening condition in the permit and inspect compliance when the permit is issued.
